In 2004, the Dutch Embassy in Bulgaria painted graffiti on a wall in central Sofia. It was a poem by Jan Hanlo, one of The Netherlands' most famous poets. In the following years, other embassies joined the Wall-to-Wall. Poetry Europe project. By 2009, all 27 EU members, plus Turkey, had similar walls around central Sofia. They all included artwork by Bulgarian artists and poems by famous poets from participating countries, in their original language, and in English and Bulgarian translation. Today, the poetry walls have become ingrained in Sofia's urban fabric - a site of interest in their own right that often attract the tourists.
This book gathers all the walls and poems from the Wall-to-Wall. Poetry Europe project, and provides the necessary background. A wonderful gift for everyone who loves poetry, art and little discoveries.
